The Motor City Funk Night

The Motor City Funk Night was Detroit’s longest lived, most infamous underground party. It even made it to being mentioned on John Olivers Last Week Tonight for attaining the record for most cars impounded by the DPD ever.

I was lucky enough to get to work with Funk Nights founder Frank Raines and Funk Nights manager Eastside Jon from 2009 to 2011 putting on events at legal venues and helping them transition out of the underground as arrests and police break ups were increasing as the event itself began to skyrocket in popularity.

We put on something like 24 to 30 events together with attendance ranging from 1500 to 3000 per evening. My job was to handle contracts and negotiations at the Majestic, on site logistics, ideation for business development and some artist management.
